EXHIBITIONS > BAHRAIN ANNUAL EXHIBITION, Bahrain 2025
This exhibition, running for the past 52 years, is important to us all for a very simple reason: it is essentially among our cultural constants that returns every year and asks, again, who are we now? The Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition is not just a date in our diverse programming. It is a public mirror. And when we commit to holding up that mirror consistently, it is making a serious statement about identity, imagination and the continuation of what we want to pass on to those after us.
As Director General of Culture and Museums, showing the body of work within the walls of the Bahrain National Museum reflects the highest aspiration for the work which is now a current creative piece, but in several decades will be viewed more reverently as part of our cultural history, some will be significantly worthy of being part of museum collections, others will be part of private collections, some may be held onto by the artists, until their children decide where they should go. But beyond the future nostalgia each piece ignites, I also see our role here as both practical and deeply human. Practical, because an exhibition like this needs structure, standards, and the kind of professional visibility that helps artists move forward. Human, because artists do not thrive on exposure alone - they thrive on being taken seriously, being challenged honestly, and being supported with a distinct understanding of their challenging environment.
